What are Dental Implants?

Posted .

Have you heard of the new state-of-the-art solution to missing a tooth?  Dental implants can provide a more advanced replacement for the tooth that you may be missing.  This can take the place of a traditional bridge and can preserve adjacent teeth.  Dental implants are small metal screws that are designed to replace the natural tooth root.  These are created from titanium which provides a highly biocompatible surface that allows bone to attach to the implant during the healing process to facilitate long term results.  With a bridge, the adjacent teeth must be modified for the bridge to attach to, however with a dental implant, the adjacent teeth do not need to be altered.  Dental implants can also create stimulation to the underlying bone.  When replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant, you  will be amazed at the opportunities to have a beautiful, natural-looking smile!  Remember to ask your dentist on all the options that are available to you.
