The Effects of Bruxism

Posted .

Family Dentistry with Drs. Ogle, Schmitz, Hart, and Fickas explain the complications that can result from bruxism which is grinding of the teeth.  As you can see in this picture, bruxism which is grinding your teeth can create a lot of damage to your teeth.  Bruxism can cause abfraction which is small cracks or notches in the teeth that is caused by natural flexing of the teeth over time.  Gum recession can occur with bruxism and can result in other medical complications and the loss of the teeth with recessing gums.   Attrition can occur with the bruxism due to the grinding of the teeth together which will break down the teeth and resulting in further wearing down of the teeth,  cavities,  and damaged/cracked teeth.    Any person who is clenching or grinding the teeth should consult Drs. Ogle, Schmitz, Hart, or Fickas.  Prevention is the key to  protect the mouth and the teeth from further damage.  Drs. Ogle, Schmitz, Hart, and Fickas will provide the best treatment option to prevent the bruxism to continue.  Family Dentistry has a goal to provide the entire family the best dental care for a lifetime and preventing bruxism is part of this care.
