Let’s Protect Those Teeth!

Posted .

Family Dentistry has a goal to educate our patients to help them protect their teeth!  Teeth can last a lifetime and with the proper prevention methods this can happen.  Drs. Ogle, Schmitz, Hart, and Fickas would like to share 5 prevention tidbits today!

  1. Beware of Acid- Carbonated beverages, fruit juice, and acidic foods can harm teeth.  The acid in our food can cause enamel to wear away and resulting in the breakdown of our teeth.
  2. Use Those Mouth Guards- When playing contact sports, mouth guards will  protect your teeth, prevent concussions, cerebral hemorrhages, and injuries to the neck and jaw.
  3. Have Dental Examinations – A woman’s teeth can say a lot about the disease of osteoporosis. With proper x-rays and examination, the dentist can be the first to determine if a woman is beginning osteoporosis and needs further medical attention by another medical professional.
  4. Bottled Water Consumption- Tooth decay is becoming more prevalent and some studies have shown that the consumption of bottled water which does not include the fluoride can be impacting the protection of the teeth.  If you are a bottled water consumer, be certain to attain your fluoride in other ways to protect your teeth.  Perhaps fluoride toothpaste or fluoride treatments at our dental office.  Fluoride is important for all ages.
  5. Fight Plaque to Protect your Teeth- Brushing and flossing are so important to prevent the build-up of plaque on your teeth.  Remember to brush at least 2 times a day and floss at least 1 time a day.
