Can Teeth Regenerate?

Posted .

Scientists are continually working on new technology.  The process that scientists are working on in this article includes the regeneration of dental tissue.  At Family Dentistry, we continue to strive for higher education to stay tuned in to what is happening with modern advances of stem-cell research.  At this time, an estimated 15.1 million root canals are performed per year in the United States according to the American Dental Association.  If the scientists can make advancement in this research, the tooth will be able to regenerate its own pulp and could result in a reduction or even elimination of root canals.  The steps that the researchers are completing at this time would include removing the decayed pulp with a drill to enlarge the opening, the pulp stem cells would be then added to stimulate growth, and then the stem cells and proteins combine.  This will allow for growth of pulp cells, blood vessels, and nerves.  Drs. Ogle, Schmitz, and Hart will continue to learn as the new medical technology occurs and will continue to provide great dental care for a lifetime for you and your family!
