What are Dental Sealants?

Posted .

Dental sealants are an option to keep your teeth healthy.  Sealants are a covering that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth which are the premolars and molars.  The sealant is a plastic type material that can form a barrier on these teeth to protect them from plaque.  Plaque is the sticky film of acid producing bacteria that can cause decay resulting in cavities.  Sealants can hold up well under the force of normal chewing and can last for many years before reapplication is needed. Drs. Ogle, Schmitz, and Hart will evaluate your childs mouth to determine if sealants would be advantageous for promoting a healthy smile with healthy teeth. Please contact Family Dentistry at 853-3313 if you have any questions regarding sealants.  Our goal is to provide a Lifetime of Great Dental Care.
