FEBRUARY IS DENTAL HEALTH MONTH

Posted .

February is Dental Health Month.  This is the month that we focus on educating how to take care of your teeth so that they last a lifetime.  Our community has a program that dental representatives enter the grade schools and teach the first graders how to take care of their teeth.  As we all are aware, learning proper hygiene for our teeth is valuable at all ages but preparing the young with good habits early on is the key.

The four key points that I address with the students include:

  • eating a well balanced diet,
  • brushing with good techniques,
  • flossing appropriately
  • visiting the dentist 2 times a year.

Gus the Sugar Bug is the topic that all the youngsters enjoy hearing about and will remember to keep Gus away from their teeth.  At this age, 6 and 7 year olds should be able to brush their teeth and their tongue to prevent sugar bugs from attacking their teeth. Flossing their teeth is vital for removing sugar bugs that a brush cannot reach.  And visiting your dentist 2 times a year so that the dentist can see the health of your teeth that we are not able to see.  Keeping your teeth for a lifetime takes dedication of proper eating, brushing , and flossing as well as allowing Drs Ogle, Schmitz, and Hart to examine your mouth on a routine basis.
