Fluoride:Who Needs Fluoride and Why? (Part 2 of 2)

Posted .

As we had shared in the previous blog, fluoride is the most effective method to reduce tooth decay by receiving the fluoride topically and systemically.  Drs. Ogle, Schmitz, and Hart want to educate our patients on the benefits of fluoride.  Fluoride  is not just for children anymore.  Most adults believe that they are not in need of fluoride.  This is NOT true.  Adults do need fluoride to protect their teeth as well as children.  As our mouth changes as we age, the nerves become smaller, making our teeth less sensitive to tooth problems such as cavities.  Older people are less likely to realize that they have a tooth problem and can lose a tooth from decay.  This can be caused by exposed root surfaces or older fillings that can lead to cavities quickly.  More adults take medications which can lead to dry mouth creating the need to have sweet drinks or candy in the mouth.  As adults, our teeth need extra protection to fight against decay because adults do get cavities.  Fluoride is that extra protection that all adults should receive.  Family Dentistry wants to provide the options to children and adults for the best protection.  Drs. Ogle, Hart, and Schmitz have a goal to provide you and your family with Great Dental Care For a Lifetime.
